This position is part of the Security and Intelligent Documents, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia
Duties
Accomplishes Group Chiefs, Bookbinders, and Press Operators instructions for work assignments.
Operates various material handling and cleaning equipment.
Monitors supply levels and requests, obtains, replenishes or delivers to appropriate areas.
Assists operators in setting up, packing, removing, changing, and replacing various equipment parts.
Feeds material into disintegrator and removes clogged material.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
- Selectee must pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
- Selectee must undergo a background investigation for a security clearance.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- Selectee must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
- Working Conditions: Duties are performed in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated area.
- Working Conditions: The incumbent is exposed to low frequency noise generated by bindery equipment. The work is performed indoors, with no exposure to excessive heat or cold.

To qualify for the Printing Plant Worker (Press), you must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element: Ability to do the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Press) to be considered eligible for the position, applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of this position.
These duties require: working with printing and binding equipment and operating procedures and supplies materials used in a production environment; assisting in setting up, packing, removing, changing, and/or replacing various equipment parts for printing or bindery machines; and discern colors, count, and inspect materials.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
