About the Position: This is a Seasonal Park Ranger position; depending on workload and projects the date may be extended or shortened. This position works primarily nights and weekends, including holidays, throughout the recreation season.
Duties
Perform visitor assistance activities including patrol of project land and water areas.
Advise visitors concerning safety and proper use of facilities in accordance with established policies and regulations.
Take appropriate action to ensure compliance with these policies and regulations including the issuance of warnings and citations, when necessary.
Monitor visitation recording equipment and troubleshoot equipment making field repairs when necessary.
Perform property inventory.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid civilian driver’s license. Is regularly required to patrol park with one or more passengers.
- This position requires the incumbent is to attend First Aid and CPR training within 6 months of hire, and annually thereafter.
- This position requires the incumbent to receive a minimum of 24 hours of personnel protection/ unarmed self defense, situational evaluation and tactical communication training within 2 years of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to supervise or perform prescribed burns, and/or operate a motor vehicle with one or more passengers on at least a weekly basis, and/or operate flood gates to control water levels on waterway.
- This position requires the incumbent to be subject the hazards associated with working in and around wooded areas, lakes, and rivers.
- This position may require the incumbent to work weekends, nights, and holidays. During emergencies, the incumbent may be called on short notice.
- This position may require the incumbent to obtain a motorboat operator certification within 12 months of entry into the position.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear prescribed uniform as identified in ER 1130-2-550.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifications Education or Experience: The following qualification requirements must be met before applicants are eligible for further consideration.
Education: Successfully completed a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes technical, administrative, scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement or other park-related work. Examples of such experience would be as a park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation or conservation area; or management, assistant, or program specialist work involving protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations.
