These positons are located in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, in the Visitor, Fire and Resource Protection Division. Open to the first 101 applicants or until 08/12/2024 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration. Duties

MAJOR DUTIES: Coordinate initial emergency response, evaluating incidents, soliciting all necessary information, and applying judgment according to interagency guides, protocols and pre-plans. Receive and evaluate emergency calls, soliciting information to initiate an appropriate response of emergency services personnel, acquiring critical information (law enforcement, fire, medical search and rescue, etc.) from the public and other public safety agencies. Use a variety of specialized computer programs such as NCIC (National Criminal Information Center), NLETS (National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System), and CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) in the performance of dispatch duties. Perform multi-jurisdictional all-risk incidents (law enforcement, wildland fire, structural fire, aviation, intelligence, medical, search and rescue, and other emergency services), and/or serve at an interagency level (collaborate with federal, state, county, and local agencies). At the GS-07 may be required to obtain Emergency Medical Dispatch EMD) certification. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. There are 3 positions to be filled. 1st position: You will work from approximately mid-April through mid-March, and you will be in a non-pay status for at least 2 consecutive weeks starting mid-March. 2nd position: You will work from approximately mid-March through mid-February, and you will be in a non-pay status for at least 2 consecutive weeks starting mid-February. 3rd position: You will work from approximately mid-February through mid-January, and you will be in a non-pay status for at least 2 consecutive weeks starting mid-January.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/12/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience MUST include performing work that provides familiarity with public safety policies and procedures to include performing work such as: 1) utilizing phones and/or radios to organize operations; 2) Assisting with emergencies; 3) a general understanding of computer software platforms to send and receive information; 4) writing clear and concise reports. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree. (You must provide transcripts as proof of claimed education). -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. (You must provide transcripts as proof of claimed education). To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience MUST include activities such as: (1) providing public safety dispatching (e.g., law enforcement, emergency medical, search and rescue, and/or fire) operations in the communications center; (2) providing instructions to callers for medical emergencies; (3) operating with law enforcement computerized databases such as the law enforcement telecommunications system (LETS), justice information system (JIS), national crime information center (NCIC) and;(4) preparing written records to capture all significant events for later analysis. You must include hours per week worked. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience MUST include activities such as: (1) providing public safety dispatching (e.g., law enforcement, emergency medical, search and rescue, and fire) operations in the communications center; (2) prioritizing and/or responding to all 911 calls; (3) utilizing emergency reporting systems to coordinate emergency response; (4) providing basic training on law enforcement and/or public safety dispatching systems. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. CTAP/ICTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. To qualify based on education (ONLY FOR THE GS-05 GRADE LEVEL), you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-06/07 grade level(s) of this announcement.
