The purpose of this position Is to supervise the Interpretive program at Hopewell Furnace NHS. The Incumbent serves as the supervisor of the front line staff of the Interpretation team. The position is instrumental In shaping and guiding a program beyond traditional Interpretation to one that encompasses diverse new forms of Interpretation, outreach, education, and partnerships to reach beyond traditional audiences to new audiences, underserved populations, and recreational visitors.

Duties

Manages a complex interpretive program, including visitor centers, special events, and field programs at multiple park sites. Supervises permanent and seasonal employees, volunteers, and interns responsible for researching, developing, and presenting a variety of interpretive programs and operating visitor centers and historic buildings. Researches and develops new interpretive media, including trail guides, videos, exhibits, and digital media. Designs and implements interpretive programs integrating and focusing on cultural and natural history of a park, historic site, or similar organization. Trains and develops staff. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, You must submit ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance consistent with your SF_50s.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/05/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the position's duty to be filled successfully. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to the following: supervising, managing park operations, ability to apply principles of interpretation to complex park operations, program development and management, participating on planning teams, inspiring, motivating, and guiding staff to achieve park goals, coach, mentor, training and evaluate subordinate staff. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with a major study in one of the following fields-natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides you with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
