This position is part of the Office of Enterprise Assessments, Department of Energy. As a Security Specialist (Nuclear Security Compliance), you will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the Safeguards and Security policies and programs throughout the Department.
Duties
As a Security Specialist (Nuclear Security Compliance), you will:
Serve as a senior security authority and topic lead in the Protection Program Management and Physical Protection Systems topic areas.
Lead the evaluation of security performance assurance and performance testing activities and their incorporation in nuclear safeguards and security planning efforts.
Conduct implementation evaluations to validate that nuclear safeguard and security practices are carried out effectively.
Prepare various reports, briefings, summaries, assessment guidance, and progress reports for nuclear security matters at agency facilities.
Serve as the Office's expert in security system modeling, nuclear security vulnerability assessment processes, performance assurance, personnel security, and site security plans.

- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
- This position has been designated as CRITICAL and requires a security clearance at the "Q" level. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
- Hiring incentives may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate based on budget availability and in accordance with federal regulations.
- This position is not included in a Bargaining Unit.
- This position requires travel up to 25%.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-14) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 3 of 4 of the following
Applying policies, procedures or guidelines to ensure protection of nuclear materials, classified information, or sensitive information.
Reviewing safeguards and security practices of an organization.
Utilizing security appraisal methods to evaluate current nuclear safeguards and security programs.
Recommending changes to develop or enhance current authoritative guidance for nuclear security programs.
