You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER in the COMMANDER, NAVAL INSTALLATIONS COMMAND, OPERATIONS (N3) of NAS CORPUS CHRISTI SEC DET. NOTE: This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System­ Base Annuity in accordance with 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.

Duties

You will conduct daily inspections of posts and take immediate action to correct discrepancies noted. You will direct traffic and issue citations for improper vehicle operations and parking violations. You will write reports to provide a description of facts surrounding a crime or an incident. You will administer a police or security program (e.g., anti-terrorism, force protection, law enforcement, loss prevention program) for an organization.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. Must be able to successfully complete the mandated 40-hour Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC).
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must successfully complete a DoD approved Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training.
  • Must also successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) contamination training (if applicable), and OC refresher training.
  • Must meet applicable federal and/or state minimum age requirements for the assigned installation.
  • May be required to respond to other military installations within the region or off installation events when directed by higher authority to a disaster scene or during a national emergency.
  • Shall be required to be CPR certified and utilize a portable heart defibrillator where available.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Issuing citations in violation of law enforcement regulations; 2) Conducting investigations related to critical incidents (i.e., traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures; 3) Interviewing witnesses to gather information about incidents; and 4) Conducts inspections of vehicles to detect the unauthorized removal of classified material, government property, contraband, weapons, explosives or any items detrimental to security.
