Duties
Implements analytical techniques necessary to solve various procedural and factual geospatial and GIS issues (i.e. identifying data needs for specific projects, determining compatibility with other platforms, locating missing information).
Analyzes cumulative impacts of frequently measured environmental factors and conducts 3D/spatial analysis and geospatial modeling to analyze resource distribution and behavior.
Administers geospatial databases and implements quality control and assurance guidelines for geospatial data projects.
Conducts research to locate and obtain information from existing databases. Compiles geographic data from a variety of sources.
Provides technical user support and troubleshooting assistance for problems related to GIS Provides technical user support and troubleshooting assistance for problems related to GIS hardware and application software.
Works with other BLM offices, and other Federal, State, and local agencies to coordinate data capture and analysis projects.
Coordinates with local managers, resources specialist/technicians and IT staff to schedule geospatial hardware and software processing needs and implement required upgrades for the local office.
Represents the Bureau at management and professional conferences and other events for the purpose of exchanging information, presenting technical and policy information, and advancing advocacy for public lands stewardship.
Assists in the integration of Enterprise GIS with long and short term planning and management activities at the local level.

- Supervisory Probationary Period: If you are selected for this position, you will be required to serve a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period if one has not previously been completed.

- This position requires you to wear an officially-approved uniform while in a duty status.
- If selected for this position, you will be required to annually complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 within 30 days of reporting to duty. You will be required to provide this information annually.
- You must be 18 years of age or older to be assigned to a hazardous position.
- You must pass a pre-employment physical.
- You must meet specified levels on annual physical fitness tests, and pass periodic medical exams for wild land fire personnel, commensurate with current incident management qualifications.
- You must also pass the work capacity test for arduous positions.
- You must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Class A, B or C endorsement.
- An applicant appointed to this position must possess (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position.
- May require a one year probationary trial period.
- Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and to pass the test prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
- This is a Bargaining Unit position.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience GS-09: Applicants must at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: 1) digitizing geographic information by translating raw land-based data into code; 2) compiling geographic data from a variety of sources; 3) scheduling geospatial hardware and software processing needs and implementing required upgrades; 4) providing input into contract specifications and scopes of work.

Education GS-09 : Successful completion of at least two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or a completed master's degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university in a field directly related to the work of the position which provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
OR,
Combination GS-09: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as described above, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. Please note only graduate education in excess of one year (18 semester hours) may be used to qualify under this option. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
