You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER (BATTALION CHIEF) in the Commander, Navy Regional Public Safety of COMMANDER NAVY REGION HAWAII.

Duties

You will assign work to junior firefighters or employees based on priorities, requirements, and capabilities. You will direct firefighters during structural, aircraft, and shipboard fire suppression and extinguishing. You will direct fire protection and structural firefighters during classroom and simulator training sessions. You will present fire protection and prevention education or training to employees You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or rescue vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. You will write performance expectations for employees related to fire protections standards, deadlines, and procedures.

  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
  • The incumbent will work a 72 hour work schedule.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying principles, practices, and techniques applicable to fire protection elements involving fire prevention, aircraft, structural, ordinance and shipboard firefighting; 2) Training personnel in fire protection and prevention; 3) Maintaining supply and material inventories to meet the needs of fire prevention functions; and 4) Providing the full range of supervisory functions (i.e. assigning work, recommending personnel actions, executing EEO procedures, etc.). Knowledge of and ability to apply basic emergency medical techniques, including patient assessment, patient treatment, rescue breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and noninvasive medical procedures; ability to prepare individuals for transport to a medical facility.
