This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Financial Management Division, Office of Finance.
This position(s) primary purpose is to perform a variety of examination, analysis, verification, and maintenance of accounts, accounting data, and travel related transactions. Additionally, processes and audits a variety of payment documents and provides trechnical accounting assistance to the agency management officials, employees, and serviced organizations.
Duties
As an Accounting Technician, your typical work assignments may include:
Communicate orally and in writing to resolve accounting and/or travel related issues and problems, to provide advice and assistance on matters relevant to accounting transactions.
Manage a broad in-depth body of accounting and financial management regulations, practices, procedures, and policies related to the specific financial management functions of the assigned organization.
Perform a variety of accounting functional areas and their relationships to other functions to research and/or investigate problems or errors that require reconciling and reconstructing incomplete information, conducting extensive and exhaustive searches.
Review of automated accounting systems in sufficient depth to permit rapid identification and correction or errors and reconciliation of mechanized data to permit analysis and reporting of funds utilization.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.
You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) performing the following duties: 1) Support in processing expenditures, disbursements, vouchers, and rejected transactions; 2) Aid in providing customer service by responding to complex oral and written inquiries; 3) Provide backing in resolving voucher inconsistencies ensuring validity and status of financial and/or travel transactions; 4) Examining accounts and resolving difficult reconciliations.
You may qualify at the GS-08 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) performing the following duties: 1) Process expenditures, disbursements, vouchers, and rejected transactions; 2) Provide customer service by responding to complex oral and written inquiries; 3) Resolve voucher inconsistencies ensuring validity and status of financial and/or travel transactions; 4) Examining, maintaining, and reconciling extensive and diverse accounting transactions utilizing a financial management database and/or system.
