This position is located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in the Interpretation and Education Division.
Duties
The ideal candidate is creative, and detail oriented with superb communication skills. This person is comfortable collaborating with others and excited to find new ways to leverage cutting-edge technology and communication strategies. The incumbent will be responsible for the following: Create a wide variety of digital interpretive media exhibits, products and services that ensure a greater understanding of park resources; Create and edit visual and written content for the park website, mobile app, and social media accounts; Create, edit, and organize digital assets including videos, photographs, and audio recordings; Stay abreast and continue to apply emerging technologies, Relevancy/Diversity/Inclusion principles, and Accessibility standards.
Below are duties specifically for each grade level. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
GS-07 Duties:
Performs visual design/display duties on an ever increasingly independent basis. Typically, works on less complex designs under the supervision of the chief of interpretation.
Researching and consolidating information for use in visual information products.
Selecting common visual materials and creating drafts for routine projects.
Assisting in the development and installation of exhibits.
Planning the visual aspects of print projects such as posters and pamphlets.
Creation of brochures, signs, posters, displays and assist with exhibit design.
Create and edit social media, web, and app content.
GS-09 Duties:
Performs more advanced visual design/display duties on an independent basis. Collaborates with in-house and external resource personnel.
Managing the production of videos and podcasts.
Leading teams developing and implementing design concepts for critical, complex projects
Collaborating with Government Publishing Office-approved printing companies.
Examines finished projects to ensure uniformity and consistence with specifications and standards.
Considers cost associated with preparation of visual material and equipment to balance against project objectives.
Designs and coordinates the publication of projects and promotions using specialized graphic design software, produce and finalize logos, illustrations, graphs, charts, and images.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/12/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Qualifying specialized experience in digital media includes: planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: interpretive writing for digital media, social media, digital storytelling, and graphic design at the level of an advanced trainee or higher level. You must include hours per week worked.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one-year of progressively higher level graduate education (18 semester hours) in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. You must include transcripts.
Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. EXAMPLE: Completed 9 hours of related graduate level education (50%) and possess 6 months of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level (50%), total to one-year of the experience requirement. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
Meet the criteria for Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) as evidenced by one of the three following methods:
In the upper third of my graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. If related in any of the following: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.
Have a GPA 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum, or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. If related in any of the following: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.
Member in one of the national scholastic honor societies. These honor societies are listed by the Association of College. Honor Societies (external link). Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. If related in any of the following: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.
To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: using a variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual communication products; using visual materials incorporated into a visual communication product such as photographs, illustrations, charts, or maps to be reproduced as part of an exhibit, publication, illustration, or digital media; preparing layouts of pages, two-dimensional exhibit panels, or presentation materials; and/or working with computer graphic designs for use in exhibits, publications, illustrations, or digital media for presentation of information. You must include hours per week worked.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two years of progressively higher level graduate education (36 semester hours) leading to such a degree, or, LL.B or J.D., if related in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. You must include transcripts.
Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. EXAMPLE: Completed 27 hours of related graduate level education (50%) and possess 6 months of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level (50%), total to one-year of the experience requirement. (NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level can be combined with the appropriate level of experience to qualify applicants for positions at the GS-9 grade level). The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
