These positions (2) are located in the Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS), Office of Field Operations (OFO), Regional Office which is responsible for compliance assistance and enforcement activities, specifically as Regional Investigators for the Boston Regional Office and Atlanta Regional Office.
All current Department of Labor employees with competitive status.
This position is outside the bargaining unit.
This is not a virtual position.
Duties
Works closely with, assists, and performs regional Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) program support.
Provides, or oversees the preparation of, FOIA reports to VETS' National Office, and coordinates FOIA appeal actions with the National Solicitor's Office.
Serves as case agent and technical resource to DOJ or OSC in cases in litigation before Federal courts or the Merit System Protection Board.
Conducts, coordinates, or works with others in conducting, investigations of USERRA complaints.
Performs programmatic analysis and coordination of program performance of VETS' investigations of compliance activities.
Assesses and defines complex regulatory issues, questions, and factual patterns and to research, analyze, interpret and apply relevant laws.
Drafts reports and aspects of other recurring and special reports.
Develops and provides technical guidance and investigative guidance to address difficulties encountered in state, multi-state, and regional as well as interprets and provides input for regional investigative activity/policies.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
- Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
Qualifications
You must meet the Specialized Experience to qualify for Compliance Investigator, as described below.
For GS-12: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Qualifying specialized experience includes all of the following:
Experience utilizing investigative principles and techniques to identify and document violations of employment discrimination laws;
Demonstrated ability to communicate, conduct interviews and obtain the relevant information from witnesses or third parties; and
Skill in written communication to prepare comprehensive, investigatory reports and other documents.

This position series does not have educational requirements and education is not applicable to qualify for this grade.
