About the Position: This is an Industrial Hygiene Technician position located in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Duties
Perform various duties to assess work practices and conditions for hazards to the health and safety of workers.
Plan, organize, and conduct Industrial Hygiene exposure monitoring surveys and follow-up.
Perform Industrial Hygiene sampling and measurements using standard methods and specialized equipment.
Enter survey data into the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System - Industrial Hygiene Module (DOEHRS-IH)
Maintain Industrial Hygiene equipment, checking for compliance with existing calibration and maintenance schedules.
Document survey observations and findings and prepare written reports.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. NOTE: Management is selecting this position at the GS-07 and GS-08 grade level and the incumbent maybe non-competitively be promoted to the target grade GS-09.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of the following: (1) identifying potential health hazards, (2) planning or conducting studies or surveys, (3) utilizing automated systems to input or retrieve health or environmental data, or (4) assisting with Industrial Hygiene equipment testing or maintenance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Safety, Physics, Engineering, Biological Science, Physical Science or Environmental Health. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
GS-08
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of the following: (1) providing information to employees on safety or occupational health subjects, (2) collecting or monitoring data to assess work practices or environmental conditions, (3) maintaining inventory of health hazards using automated databases, (4) ensuring compliance with established occupational safety or health regulations, or (5) taking appropriate samples using collection devices and sending them to a designated laboratory for proper analysis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Safety, Physics, Engineering, Biological Science, Physical Science or Environmental Health. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-8).

Education: Two years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Safety, Physics, Engineering, Biological Science, Physical Science or Environmental Health.
