This position is located in the Information Technology Branch with Crownpoint Service Unit, Crownpoint, NM. The primary purpose is to operate a computerized console telephone switchboard to connect incoming and outgoing calls and/or monitor associated equipment such as two-way radios, a centralized medical gas, fire and patient alarms systems, patient systems, security surveillance cameras, and other telecommunications functions.

Duties

Operates the telephone switchboard by connecting calls to the appropriate extension or outside party. Serves as a vital communication link in dealing with complex or emergency situations. Serves as the communication unit leader during the activation of the Incident Command Team. Places and receives incoming local, long-distance commercial or government calls. Transfers all incoming calls to the appropriate parties through regular extension or through paging systems. Ascertains information from caller in order to make proper connection when the caller is not certain of services, health care provider or other functions. Furnishes direct factual information on routine matters such as hospital visiting hours, clinic appointment system, and other requested information when there is no question as to propriety of releasing such information. Refers inquiries on inpatient patient condition to the appropriate nursing station, nursing supervisor, doctor or in accordance to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Refers other inquiries to appropriate office or staff member. Notifies security personnel of any unusual or suspicious situations immediately. Operates 2-way mobile base radio communication to locate and dispatch security to the scene of traffic or criminal complaints. Coordinates Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) activity to include ground and/or air transports as requested by medical providers to include using 2-way mobile base radio communication to locate and dispatch MVOs to designated health care facilities. Responds to hospital emergency alarms by enunciating the proper code via the overhead system and contacting appropriate, other service units, and outside agencies personnel through radio pocket pagers or telephone. Prepares a variety of correspondence, reports, etc., as requested. Performs all transmitting and receiving of all facsimile documents. Records all transmittals for incoming and outgoing in the hospital Performs other clerical and/or administrative type work

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): GS-4: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. OR Completed (2) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Must provide evidence with your application). NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
