This position is located in Refugee, Asylum and International Operations, Asylum Division, Chicago Asylum Office.
As a Program Specialist, you will serve as principle USCIS representative and liaison for Asylum Pre-Screening Operations (APSO) at assigned detention facilities within a multi-state region.
Duties
Serves as principal USCIS/RAIO representative for Asylum Pre-Screening Operations (APSO) and Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP) processing at assigned detention facilities within home office jurisdiction.
Works with management on identifying organizational needs by making the best use of present resources and plans for future needs and implementation of new resources.
Coordinates requests for additional resources by working closely with Asylum management and federal partners in the development of comprehensive short-range and long-range plans.
Manages and maximizes resources to ensure optimal case processing time frames are met including liaising with other agencies to request and obtain additional communications support and interview spaces when required for surge processing.
Troubleshoots and resolves complex and sensitive case processing issues, such as cases involving issues including but not limited to national security, mental health/mental capacity, rare languages, confidentiality, and separated family members.
Qualifications
The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 08/05/2024.
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 08/05/2024.
GS-13: You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Conducting studies, analyzing findings and making recommendations on substantive operating programs that requires applying knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques as they relate to Asylum programs.
Performing a wide variety of analytical studies and projects related to organizational improvement, productivity improvement, compliance with internal standards and controls.
Serving as a functional lead or technical advisor for interdisciplinary project teams to evaluate program operations, identify and articulate issues, recommend solutions in a clear, concise manner to senior executive-level audiences.
Liaising with inter-agency partners in order to facilitate smooth and efficient processing.
