This is a Term position, NTE Four years. This position is located within the Auditory and Vestibular Clinical Research Section (AVCRS), Neurotology Branch (NB), National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). Engages in clinical research on mechanisms of auditory and vestibular function/dysfunction, rare disease, and earliest detection in humans across the lifespan.

Duties

Conduct research of the auditory and vestibular systems. Serve as the lead/primary investigator for several assigned areas of investigation for which she/he is the subject matter expert, and as a project member for most of the research projects conducted in the AVCRS. Evaluate auditory and vestibular function of subjects participating in AVCRS research protocols, and of patients participating in other research protocols at the NIH Clinical Center. Modify parameters to achieve customized assessments and to evaluate feasibility and superiority of various techniques. Responsible for the management of laboratory equipment, computers and software, and oversight of equipment calibration. Evaluate new instrumentation and makes recommendations concerning the purchase of new scientific instruments and computers and software. Assist the Chief Research Audiologist by facilitating the efficient and productive operation of the lab. Develop novel approaches and methodologies for assessment and documentation of functional aspects of the auditory and vestibular systems.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must show all of the following: A. Education Requirement:Completed a graduate or higher level degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. B. Licensure Requirement: In addition, you must have a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. C. In addition to meeting the education and licensure requirements, you must also possess relevant experience to qualify for this position: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assessing, evaluating, analyzing, and treating hearing and vestibular disorders in in a clinical research environment; investigating methods to increase scientific understanding of hearing and vestibular disorders and other factors causing their disruption; providing instruction in the principles and bases of communication including clinical techniques and methods of assessment, evaluation, and treatment to audiologists and specialists in related fields; managing operational aspects of a research laboratory or audiology clinic; developing and presenting research manuscripts, posters and/or presentations at professional meetings.
