Duties
You will transport hazardous waste, universal waste and regulated solid wastes from on base department and tenant commands and as required, from non-contiguous Navy properties to the appropriate storage facility.
You will inspect regulated waste containers at the pickup sites or upon receipt at the HWSF or Environmental Services Waste Management Site (ESWMS) for structural integrity.
You will coordinate with departments, tenant commands, and contractors to ensure any improper waste pick-up procedures.
You will characterize regulated wastes as hazardous waste, nonhazardous waste, universal waste, regulated solid wastes and hazardous materials.
You will be providing such guidance to facility personnel for hazardous waste, universal waste, used oil, and other regulated waste management, including spill response.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license (Must be obtained prior to EOD) and forklift operator license (Can be obtained within 6 months of EOD).
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require occasional travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Ability to wear a Level A suit and self-contained breathing apparatus for up to 60 minutes at a time is required.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current DOT Transportation of Hazardous Materials/Wastes program certification.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Inspecting regulated hazardous waste containers and storage facilities for compliance; 2) Preparing and submitting waste shipping manifests and required paperwork in advance of transport; 3) Responding and supporting cleanup of hazardous substance spills.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
OR
Possession of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to this position being filled.
