This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Section Small Shop Chief no more than 25% of the time over journey level mechanics and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: 1. Performs small shop chief duties over the journey level mechanics in the section no more than 25% of the time. Cleans work area and equipment. 2. Diagnoses and corrects malfunctions of major and minor aircraft systems. With assistance from specialists in occupations such as electronics, electrical and armament, uses power from external sources to test and check systems. 3. Performs organizational maintenance. Performs aircraft cleaning and corrosion control work. 4. Works with a crew chief in the launch and recovery of aircraft. Performs end-of-runway inspections. Controls tools. 5. Utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC with little or no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair of transport, tanker, bomber and/or fighter fixed/rotor wing aircraft. 2. Skill in use and maintenance of measuring instruments and various mechanics' hand tools. 3. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, and technical orders. Ability to determine when new aircraft assemblies should be installed, repaired, or reworked, and the extent of adjustment required. Ability to detect and isolate malfunctions and to determine when new assemblies, components and parts of aircraft should be installed, reworked, repaired or adjusted. 4. Knowledge of aircraft ground functional test procedures, to include launch and recovery operations. Knowledge of the makeup, operation and installation of a variety of aircraft assemblies. Knowledge of how a variety of aircraft parts, accessories and components are removed and assembled. 5. Knowledge of the USAF Technical Order Program and its documentation procedures. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations and technical orders. Knowledge of tool, equipment and materials accounting and security. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time and attendance, and budgeting instructions, guidelines, and requirements. 6. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies {UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 2. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (80 lbs and over). Heavy carrying (45 lbs and over). Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are 4 Hours/day. Hours of standing are 4 Hours/day. Hours of repeated bending are 4 hours/week. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (aid permitted).
