About the Position: Join us at the United States Southern Command. We provide direct support to a four-star unified Combatant Commander, but are compact enough that our staff also works with senior leadership representatives of our inter-service, inter-agency and (public and private) international partner organizations. Our contribution to furthering our country's relationships with South and Central American nations and peoples are substantial.

Duties

Coordinate Joint Individual Augmentation (JIA) requirements for SOUTHCOM and Joint Task Forces. Manage JIAs in Force Management Tracking System for Joint Staff validation and sourcing. Review SOUTHCOM contingency plans, operational plans and campaign plans for J1 equities. Serve as a member of the J1 Crisis Action Team in support of operations and exercises. Coordinate with SOUTHCOM components for taskings and due outs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement 10% of the time.
  • Position requires a Security Clearance at the Top Secret SCI level, as the incumbent will be required to access, process, use and safeguard classified National Defense information.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience 1) Working as a team to identify and solve problems. 2) Assessing mission readiness and communicating with a variety of audiences. 3) Evaluating complex regulations to prepare reports and recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Administrative Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Knowledge ManagementOral CommunicationOrganizational Awareness Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent pay band.
