This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Supervisory Recreation Specialist you will be responsible for providing first level supervision to all recreation employees while overseeing the health and wellness activities and events; social and physical recreational activities for Haskell students who reside both on and off campus.

Duties

As a Supervisory Recreation Specialist GS-0188-9, your typical work assignments may include the following: Provide first-level supervision to assigned employees. Plan work to be accomplished by employees, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare work schedules. Identify developmental and training needs of employees. Assign work based on priorities, difficulty and requirements of assignments, and staff capabilities. Evaluate work performance and conduct annual performance reviews of employees. Interview and select candidates for positions in the division; recommend appointment, promotion, or reassignments. Hear and resolve employee complaints; refer grievances and unresolved complaints to a higher lever supervisor or manager.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-9: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Examples include: (1) Planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs. (2) Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels. (3) Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management. (4) Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations. -OR- EDUCATION: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL. B or J.D., if related. Major study must have been in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: combination of graduate level education beyond the first year of progressive graduate study (as defined in B above) and specialized experience (as defined in A above) when combined together meets 100% of the total requirements for the position. To compute, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12; then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100% to qualify. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts and your resume must support the experience. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.

Education
