This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard (USCG), Coast Guard Academy (CGA), New London, CT.

Duties

As an Electrician, you will be constructing, installing, troubleshooting (tracing and locating defects), maintaining, and repairing various electrical wiring systems, electrical controls, circuits, fixtures, switchgear, electric motors, high intensity lighting, and electrical heating systems throughout the academy.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:  1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (Screen out Element)2. Knowledge of Electrical Equipment3. Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices4. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)5. Ability To Use Electrical Drawings6. Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools7. Troubleshooting (Electrical)                       National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
