The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Pipefitter Leader. The Pipefitter Leader will function under the Facilities Management Service.

Duties

The duties of the position may include but, are not limited to: The incumbent leads the Pipefitting (plumbing) Shop in accomplishing the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and quality standards. Performs a full range of duties at the Journeyman level. The incumbent's duties include installations, maintenance and repair of all plumbing and piping systems, both inside and outside buildings, and all equipment fixtures and fittings served by these piping systems. The incumbent passes on to other workers the instructions received from the supervisor and assigns the immediate tasks to be performed. Checks work while in progress and upon completion to ensure the supervisor's .instructions on work sequence, procedures, quality standards and deadlines are met. The incumbent of this position is responsible for assisting the supervisor in creating and maintaining a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance Program for pipe fitting and plumbing systems. He/she is also charged with Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) duties over various service vendors in conjunction with maintenance, repair, or 1ocal project issues. He/she sees that needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available and needed stock is obtained from suppliers. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Occasionally, lifts and carry items that weigh over 23 kilograms (50 pounds). The incumbent must be mentally alert and able to act independently in case of an emergency.
