Serves as a Maintenance Worker in the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) Headquarters. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the DeCA Headquarters building and grounds, assure a safe environment for DeCA's workforce, perform preventative maintenance on building systems such as the back up generator system, perform daily safety and fire prevention checks throughout the HQ building and grounds.
Duties
Perform grounds maintenance to include yard care, tree pruning, snow removal and care of flowers and shrubs.
Perform minor plumbing and fixtures repairs such as sinks, faucets, commodes, urinals, showers and garbage disposals.
Inspect and performs building maintenance including minor carpentry and painting.
Load and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies and materials to and from the truck or dollies.
Use pallet jack to move, stack and un-stack, load and unload materials and operates a 5-ton truck to transport bulk materials.

Requirements

Examples of qualifying experience:
Applying State and local safety rules and regulations while driving and operating a 5-ton truck over all types of roads in all types of road conditions.
Using power and hand tools to perform routine carpentry, plumbing, electrical and ground maintenance tasks.
Operating pallet jack to move, stack and un stack, load and unload materials.
Performing general labor duties such as moving furniture and office equipment, housekeeping, setting up conference rooms and inspecting buildings for preventative maintenance.

Work environment: The work is done inside and outside, and is often dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbents are sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather. The plumbing workers occasionally make repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. The incumbents have occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones. The employees also have frequent exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections.
