This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located at the Soldier Recovery Unit, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
This is a Term position NTE 24 months.
This is an obligated position.
Duties
Coordinate and direct the behavioral health and social work services for the soldiers assigned or attached to the Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU).
Perform ongoing behavioral health risk assessments of Soldiers, to include behavioral health disorders, terminal illness, chronic/debilitating illness, etc.
Determine health intervention needs, resource needs, issues related to compliance with medical care plans, medical/physical evaluation board actions, and issues related to transitioning back to duty or into the civilian sector.
Monitor behavioral health treatment of the Soldier to ensure Soldier receives required behavioral health care.
Participate in treatment planning conferences and Soldier care related meetings and participates in Comprehensive Recovery Planning.
Provide behavioral health services in the context of supportive counseling, brief-solution focused interventions, and crisis counseling to Soldiers.
Conduct ongoing assessments of the social work role and its effectiveness within the Soldier Recovery Unit and translate to program development and clinical services.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 24 Months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Clinical/SRU):
Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting behavioral health risk assessments; determining behavioral health intervention needs; and monitoring behavioral health treatment and/or participating in treatment planning. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.
