About the Position: Serves as a Lead Medical Technician in a Military Entrance Processing Station over 3-5 Medical Technicians (GS-0645-06 or military equivalent). Incumbent of this position provides technical expertise, guidance and leadership to the Medical Exam Group. This is a permanent position.

Duties

Distributes and balances the workload among employees. Conducts on-the-job training of new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Manages medical consultations. Provides technical guidance on standardized procedures, policies and directives. Performs immediate first aid to applicants with adverse reactions. Provides assistance with handling of difficult situations (i.e., interpretation of doctor’s orders, managing unruly applicants, etc.) Provides input to supervisor on performance of employees. Communicates and coordinates day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Applicant must be physically able to perform (demonstrate) and evaluate military physical aptitude (maneuvers) tests.
  • Must use restrictive and protective clothing such as surgical gloves, employee cannot wear exposing footwear.
  • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
  • Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.
  • Successfully complete the applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes measuring vital signs of applicants/patients (i.e., taking blood pressure, pulse, respiration readings); Collecting specimens (i.e., blood, urine, tissue) from lab or directly from patient; Conducting a medical test (i.e., Audiometry, electrocardiograms (EKGs), Breath Alcohol Tests (BAT); Ensures the proper maintenance of medical testing and evaluative equipment.; Verifies applicant identities using biometrics (digital fingerprints and photographs);Inputting and reviewing data for Electronic Health Record. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Medical Technology/Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or related to the field. (You must attach your transcript.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (You must attach your transcript.)
