About the Position: Installation Security Guard Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. If there are no Veterans preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.

Duties

Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to the installation. Operate and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal in accordance with federal and state laws. Record visitor information and purpose of visit, as necessary; may issue daily passes or refer visitors to another location to obtain special passes. Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage, and espionage and to enforce the security regulations of the installation. Ensure written orders are available and provides specific interpretations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Secret Clearance.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Incumbents must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program for social adjustment, emotional stability, sound judgment, dependability, flexibility in adjusting to changes, ability to work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions.
  • Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a random/recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.
  • Shift work is required. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass entry level and annual re-certification of standard Army Physical Agility Test (PAT).
  • Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform and maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability; may be required to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunition - if necessary.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Must not have had a previous misdemeanor conviction of domestic violence.
  • Must successfully complete Security Guard training.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service which includes working with federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization performing installation access control, using physical access control equipment, safeguarding personnel, information, and critical assets, recording visitor information, and determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
