You will serve as a Legal Assistant in the Admiralty and Claims and Division, within the Office of the Judge Advocate General (OJAG).

Duties

You will provide assistance to the attorneys in the Division and the day-to-day processing of all correspondence received by the Division. You will independently control and manage all incoming correspondence using established office procedures and knowledge of the organization. You will conduct initial intake and review of all high visibility mass tort claims handled at the HQ level, and ensure that all newly received claims are entered into the relevant system for tracking and record keeping purposes. You will analyze claims to determine whether they are sufficient to meet the technical requirements for a claim under the applicable statute.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Analyzing documents for inconsistencies to recommend corrective actions; 2) Maintaining a log of incoming and outgoing correspondence such as mail and documents; 3) Conducting initial intake of all matters handled by office; and 4) Drafting letters utilizing proper grammar, and editing or proofing documents to ensure responses are within guidelines and procedures.
