This position is located within the Environmental Management Service (EMS) Audie Murphy Campus (ALMC) of South Texas Veteran's Health Care System (STVHCS) San Antonio, TX. The incumbent performs laundry service to assigned nurse servers, exchange carts, floor closets or other type of linen distribution system utilized in their assigned area.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Prepares and loads carts of clean linen for delivery to wards, clinics, and other areas; and loads carts according to established linen quotas. Maintain adequate clean linen/pillow levels on all units with a 24-hour supply each day. Requesting linen items from the consolidated textile facility. Collecting soiled linens from various collection points. Make special deliveries to units as requested to accommodate patient care needs. Ensure all carts, baskets, and exchange carts are covered during time linen is being delivered. Perform walk-through inspections (prior to delivery) on units to determine exact needs to keep units to par levels. Clean and disinfect linen folding table located in the linen room. Clean assigned nurse servers, exchange carts, floor carts and other types of linen distribution systems utilized in assigned areas. Prepare and exchange carts for assigned areas by end of day in preparation for delivery at start of next day. Performs all duties in accordance with station policies, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the laundry section. Practice and enforce all sanitary measures to minimize cross contamination of clean linen. Be familiar with items from Sterile Processing and Distribution and Patient Care Services (slings, mitts, lift restraints, non-skid socks, hip protectors, etc.) to be included in daily deliveries. Sorts soiled linen by classification and degree of soil and follows all established procedures. Moving carts on wheels weighing approximately 600-700 pounds throughout the medical facility. Maintains production counts and inventory records of all supplies. Serve as back up to Patient Assistance Program Clerk in picking up and delivering patient personal clothing and valuables, inventorying and safeguarding.. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 0700-1530, Mon-Friday and includes weekends. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Heavy Lifting (45 pounds and over), pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, etc. The nature of the work requires standing for long periods of time; reaching, stretching, and lifting on a regular basis. Good reflexes and hand eye coordination are required for safe handling of carts. Incumbent will be required to move heavily loaded carts by pushing or pulling on flat surfaces as well as gradual inclines. Incumbent is exposed to noisy, hot and humid conditions. Noise, vibrations, cleaning agents and atmospheric conditions associated with a textile care setting. Requires continuous walking on concrete floors, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting. In the possibility of exposure to laundry from patients with contagious diseases, workers wear protective masks, gloves, and gowns.
