The position is located in the Facility Management Department of the Facility Support Directorate located in the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago, Illinois.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: As a driver, will operate 22 to 44-passenger bus (with or without wheelchair lifts), passenger cars, station wagons, pickup trucks, 7 to 15-passenger vans, cargo vans and other trucks (with or without lift gates or other special equipment) with automatic or standard transmissions on a daily basis, as assigned. While assigned driving duties, driver will be expected to safety assist passengers entering/departing these vehicles, as necessary. Determines route to be followed, taking into consideration such factors as ongoing hospital activities, weight limitations, and safety conditions Transports patients and family members, supplies, materials, or equipment throughout the medical center complex and the local public area Assures vehicle is not overloaded Performs required operator maintenance Maintains service records, completes delivery records, trip tickets, and compiles accident reports Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 08:00am- 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/02/2024. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Must have muscular and visual coordination, rapid reflexes, depth and field of vision must be within normal limits. Good hearing, corrected with an aid, is also required to enable incumbent to perform a satisfactory job. Moderate to heavy physical capacity may be required when operating the buses/trucks using in transporting the patients/cargo due to the size, wind resistance, turning radius, braking distance, and other factors not readily visible while driving lighter and smaller type vehicles. Assists in the loading/unloading of materials and/or other cargo being transported (lifts cargo weighing 0-50 pounds without assistance; over 50 pounds with assistance). Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in all kinds of weather. Emergency repair work may expose the operator to all types of climatic conditions, as well as to the hazards of traffic. Driving will mainly be on well maintained roadways; however, roadway conditions may be severely deteriorated due to construction work or weather conditions. Some off the road driving may be required. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
