About the Position: This position is located in the Optometry clinic at Submarine Base, Groton, CT. The function of the position is to provide direct patient care to beneficiaries through dispensing of corrective lenses. The incumbent helps identify ocular and systemic health problems that impact decision-making in prescribing correction lenses. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Answer question about spectacle and contact lens order Conducts ancillary testing of patients. Routinely obtain ocular and health history Assist the optometrist in various patient procedures Check in patients and ensure eligibility. Adjust frames and nose pads on military eyewear for improved function and comfort.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes attaining patient ocular history; perform confrontation visual field tests; neutralize current spectacle prescriptions; perform basic eye testing procedures; Applies ocular bandages following foreign; order eyewear for eligible beneficiaries; use electronic records system to input data and maintain patient records.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Optometry. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
