This co-located collaborative care position is administratively held within the Mental Health Service Line, programmatically assigned to the Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Program, located within primary care. The PCMHI Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) functions as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team and delivers brief consultation-based services to Veterans and primary care providers.
Duties
The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) provides services to Veterans, their families, and the interdisciplinary team regarding evaluation, identification, and treatment of psycho-social concerns and psychiatric diagnoses in the outpatient behavioral health setting. The incumbent has working knowledge in the use of mental health diagnoses and basic medical terminology. The incumbent works under the licensure of a clinical supervisor in the Mental Health Service Line. Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Work with patients and families who are experiencing a basic emotional, medical, and social problems utilizing individual, group, and family counseling skills.
Work with more complex problems under close supervision.
Assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members.
Formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patient's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and assistance needed with guidance from the social work supervisor.
Understanding of psychosocial treatment modalities.
Ability to implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups to achieve treatment goals.
Knowledge in utilizing supportive, problem solving, or crisis intervention techniques.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education. Graduation from a degree program in physical therapy from an approved college or university approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapy program.
Current, full, active and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory orCommonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
PTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3j.
Preferred Experience: This announcement is to hire one Outpatient Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (Golden); one Outpatient Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (Aurora); one Wheelchair/Assistive Technology Specialist (Aurora), one PT Residency Program Director (Aurora) and one Amputation Clinical Specialist (Aurora).
Preferred experience for all Physical Therapists:
Must meet one full-year as a Physical Therapist at the GS-12 grade level.
Specific clinical experience in manual therapy techniques related to treatment of chronic pain syndromes of the spine, acute injuries of the spine, myofascial pain syndromes, as well as orthopedic conditions.
Specific clinical experience in treatment of extremity problems in the shoulder, knees or ankles.
Specific clinical experience providing treatment for post-surgical orthopedic conditions including patients with lower extremity amputations.
Clinical experience with treatment of outpatients with such diagnoses as deconditioning from extended illness, CVA, MS, Parkinson's, Spinal Cord injury, Traumatic brain injury etc. who have rehabilitation needs.
Clinical experience with patients ranging from 18 to 80+ years.
Clinical experience has taken place within the past 5 years to be considered for this position.
Demonstrated ability to practice physical therapy with a high level of quality and independence.
Experience supervising clinical work of Physical Therapy Assistants and/or Physical Therapy Students.
Additional preferred experience for Outpatient Orthopedic Clinical Specialist at Aurora and Golden is:
Minimum 5 years' experience as a physical therapist in an outpatient clinic.
Direct experience with clinical and administrative operations specific to a Medical Center setting within ECHCS (Aurora) and specific to CBOCs within ECHCS (Golden).
Additional preferred experience for Wheelchair/Assistive Technology Specialist is:
Minimum 2 years' experience as a physical therapist in an outpatient clinic.
Minimum 2 years' specific clinical experience in outpatient specialty PT services in wheelchair seating and Assistive Technology.
Additional preferred experience for Physical Therapy Residency Program Director is:
Minimum 5 years' experience as a physical therapist in an outpatient clinic.
Minimum 3 years' specific experience as a Physical Therapy Residency Program Director.
Specific firsthand knowledge of VA Physical Therapy Program Directives, policies and procedures to include program accreditation.
Additional preferred experience for Amputation Clinical Specialist is:
Minimum 5 years' experience as a physical therapist in an outpatient clinic.
Minimum 3 years' specific experience as an amputation clinical specialist.
Grade Determinations:GS-13 Experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level and one of the following: Evidence of a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice directly in the specialty area. This time must be between the past two and five years; or Board Certification in the specialty area recognized by the ABPTS; or Completion of a fellowship program; or An additional advanced degree in a related field. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the all following KSAs.1. Advanced knowledge and expert skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in a specialized treatment area of physical therapy.2. Ability to serve as a consultant and subject matter expert for health care providers regarding the delivery of care within a specialized content area of physical therapy (see paragraph 2i).3. Ability to teach and mentor medical center staff in a specialized content area of physical therapy.4. Ability to guide the work of a multi-disciplinary team in a specialized content area of physical therapy.5. Advanced knowledge and expert skill to perform and interpret specialized procedures and tests in evaluating the treatment outcomes in the assigned specialty content area.
Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and variety. Clinical Specialists spend at least 25% or greater of their time working with specialized population(s) within their department. The individual is assigned responsibility for serving as the subject matter expert in the content specialty area and as a consultant to physical therapy and other medical center staff in evaluating and treating patients in the specialty area. Clinical Specialists have advanced knowledge and demonstrate expert clinical practice skills in providing assessment and treatment interventions across the continuum of care. Clinical specialists have advanced training in specialized technology related to their area of practice. He/she establishes and maintains contact with other health care providers involved in patient care via written, telephone, and personal communication on a regular basis.

Physical Requirements: Physical Therapy is a vocation that requires regular and recurring physical exertion with long periods of standing, bending, walking and periods of assisting patients with transfers. This hospital has a policy of NO PATIENT LIFT, meaning that mechanical lifts are available to assist with safe patient transfers without lifting patients directly. Demonstration of various physical therapy procedures requires good physical conditioning. Physical therapy also requires manual dexterity to manipulate tools and equipment with activities such as assembling equipment with the use of hand tools such as screwdriver or pliers, and power tools such as a power chop saw.
