The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) in Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) is the principle support for coordinating the numerous complex and diverse activities within HBPC Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model of care. Work involves specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes.
Duties
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) coordinates with the HBPC PACT Teamlets to review HBPC Program utilization by using various reports, ensuring that the HBPC program is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the program, and make any necessary adjustments.
Performs work involving the collection, compilation and/or tracking of data and statistical information in support of the HBPC's program operation.
Maintains an automated system of program specific data to track suspense's on items such as national data collection efforts through VISTA and Comprised Patient Record System (CPRS).
Establishes and organizes computerized data sets, and retrieves computerized data (using programs such as Excel, SharePoint, Word, Vista, VSSC and Data Warehouse).
Assists HBPC PACT teams with data collection and compilation to include but not limited to: weekly/monthly/quarterly reports: average daily census, clinical visit tracking, vehicle utilization, team member performance and other reports as needed by program leadership. Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports.
Serves as a front line representative and or liaison to assist veterans and staff; process various requests for information, which will include but is not limited to: in person assistance, telephone calls, emails, faxes, electronic notification through various VA systems and request for Release of Information (ROI) following all VA directives.
Monitors HBPC consults and discharges, assessments to initiate the plan of care and enters appropriate information in the Vista package.
Provides administrative support to multiple inter-disciplinary teams of medical professionals in an outpatient/inpatient setting.
Additional duties or tasks may be assigned by the supervisor to ensure efficient daily operations.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 p.m.

Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Experience: One year experience of clerical, office, [customer service], or other [administrative] work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR,
Education: One year above high school OR,
Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
GS-06 Requirements
Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the [GS-5] grade level
and
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below:
Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met.
Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations.
Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns.
Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to access to care.
Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc.
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an office/clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions; the area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. However, the work environment requires someone with the ability to handle several tasks at once in sometimes stressful situations.
