This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base, NDAA 1125 (a) and (c) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Enforces federal, state, local laws and official orders, which includes the protection of government and personal property.
Ensures the maintenance of physical security standards in accordance with regulations.
Patrols designated areas by vehicle or foot to check perimeter locks, fence gates and restricted areas.
Explains and interprets security and law enforcement regulatory material, applicable policies, and plans.
Provides written documentation of accidents and/or incidents.
Prepares a variety of reports utilizing automated systems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential" - in the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm and must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation and requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance (T3).
- This position requires the incumbent to meet and maintain the Individual Personnel Reliability Program standards outlined in accordance with AR 190-56.
- This position is a drug testing-designated position and requires pre-employment and random drug testing thereafter.
- This position requires shift work or a change in work shift to provide coverage on evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Must undergo an initial, and annually thereafter, physical examination to assess continued ability (physical, emotional, and mental stability) for effective performance.
- Must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid training.
- Must successfully pass an entry level, and annual re-certification thereafter, standard Army physical fitness test, the Physical Agility Test (PAT).
- Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
- This position requires the incumbent to must wear a prescribed Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with AR 190-56 and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-04 position Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with co-workers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information; AND Six months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service which includes protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). (Note: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience on a month-for-month basis.)

Education: Two years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-05 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling access to a facility, searching various types of vehicles, verifying identification, and operating radios to pass and receive information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04 or equivalent).
GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience performing security work such as detection and prevention of theft, damage, or trespassing; performing searches; confiscating unauthorized items; directing traffic flow; verifying identification; and/or controlling access to premises. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05 or equivalent).

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Substitution of education for experience is permitted for the GS-04 position only.
