THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0324000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard.

Duties

As a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-5378-8/10, you will accomplish maintenance on electronically controlled powered support equipment containing highly complex digital devices and integrated circuits. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Independently determine work sequences, specifications, and special procedures to be used to fault-isolate and repair unusual problems in various pieces of powered support equipment. Conduct classes to train maintenance personnel in operations, test procedures, and troubleshooting requirements of highly complex powered support equipment. Responsible for the accurate interpretation of numerous manufacturer drawings, specifications, operating instructions, and test procedures, to troubleshoot, calibrate, align and repair a variety of highly complex pieces of powered support equipment. Correct unusual maintenance problems, by interpreting a variety of technical data such as tables, charts, formulas, color codes, wiring diagrams, and schematic symbols. Perform maintenance data collection and prepare other required forms. Use a variety of sophisticated testers, such as analyzers, digital meters, oscilloscopes and other measuring devices to determine repair requirements. Perform intermediate-level maintenance on powered support equipment and non-powered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE). Participate and assist in conducting the necessary safety program for the AGE activity. Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repair, and adjustments on complex rotary diesel engines. Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify and operate AGE such as AC and DC power generators, various types of internal combustion engines, air compressors, blowers, hydraulic test stands, cabin leakage testers, portable diesel engine driven generators, emergency lighting units, de-icers, heaters, load banks, hydrostatic testers, cryogenic carts, decontamination units, thermal bath, vacuum pumps, flow meters, lavatory service trailers, air conditioners and various pieces of non-powered AGE. Conduct circuit analyses, considering integrated circuit relationships, and apply electronic principles in order to fault-isolate and repair the various digital devices contained in highly complex powered support equipment. Troubleshoot, repair, adjust and align downsized powered support equipment.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank of A1C. Maximum rank of TSgt. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics; and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG 10 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories; experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments; experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships; and experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. WG-08 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training that demonstrates a basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic theory and the makeup and operation of the various individual systems and their interrelationships; experience using a small variety of test and measurement devices; experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components and accessories; and experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
