The incumbent serves as the regional interpretive specialist providing professional and technical support; advice; interpretation of rules, regulations, and guidelines; facilitation and coordination of services for projects; and review of a broad range interpretive and education functions and activities for parks and programs. Duties

The major duties of the Park Ranger (Interpretation) include, but are not limited to, the following: Coordinate, facilitate and present professional development sessions for interpretation based on updated competencies and practices. Provides technical expertise to support the regional education program including management of regional education agreements and fostering relationships with educational institutions. Manages the annual Interpretation and Education funding calls and provides technical support and expertise to parks in developing competitive proposals. Manages the development and implementation of cooperative agreements as the agreements technical representative (ATR). Serves as technical advisor for parks and programs on the elimination of program accessibility barriers and other matters affecting special populations. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/07/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Minimum Qualifications GS-11 To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: Park guide, park ranger, or tour leader, Law enforcement or investigative work, Archeological or historical preservation research work, Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area, Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 3 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree related to the occupation. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined ( NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience). You must include transcripts. Minimum Qualifications GS-12 To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work; may also be in program development and implementation, instruction and instructional design, educational agreement management and coordination, policy interpretation, and technical advisement to management. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: Park guide, park ranger, or tour leader, Law enforcement or investigative work, Archeological or historical preservation research work, Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area, Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. You must include hours per week worked. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
