About the Position: This position is located at Directorate Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security. Fort Hood rests in the beautiful hill and lake country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco.

Duties

Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all safety data stored in the Surface Danger Zone (SDZ) directory of Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) Verify and authenticate that if weapons/weapon systems are fired from approved locations at approved targets, with designated ammunition, all rounds are safe, and that damage to property or injury to or loss of life will not occur. Calculate the Vertical Danger Zone (VDZ), which provides for the containment of the flight path of the projectile/s and/or their ricochets/fragmentation. Ensure that installation range safety requirements are adhered to in the scheduling of range use, maintenance, modification, and installation of ranges, and use of training facilities.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring the utilization of firing ranges and surface danger zones in relation to ground maneuver training areas to ensure personnel safety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: occupational safety or environmental health and safety. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsOperations SupportRisk ManagementSafety Engineering Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-7).
