This Information Receptionist position is in the Executive Director's services at the VA Bedford Medical Center, MA. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.

Duties

The Information Receptionist was created for the purpose of providing informational assistance and screening to Veterans, their families, and visitors at the VA Bedford Healthcare System. Incumbent will be assigned to Veteran Experience Office, with their primary assignment location at a desk located at the entrance to the facility. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Serves as the first point of contact for many customers. Directs visitor or caller to their destination using verbal directions and/or medical center floor plan and/or information directories. Responds to questions, provides information and gives guidance. Ensure all interactions with patients, their representatives and staff are courteous. Receives visitors and callers, determines the nature of business. Assists visitors or patients with Outpatient Transport services such as wheelchair request and/or escort request to outpatient appointments or clinics. Responds face-to-face inquires. Answers the telephone and routes calls. Assists with the distribution of information on events and programs at the Medical Center. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Mon-Fri, 7:30am-4:00pm. Veterans' preference does not apply for internal or other current permanent Federal agency employees. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment. This position is a NAGE Bargaining Unit position. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/07/2024. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must have six (6) months of general experience for this occupation in the organization. General Experience includes: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR Education: You must possess one year of education beyond high School. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than 1 year may meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3. Courses of this type normally require completion of up to 40 hours per week of instruction rather than the usual 20 hours per week, and are usually of at least 3 months duration. Such courses may have been obtained through a variety of programs such as those offered by business or technical schools, and through military training programs. To be creditable, such a course must have been designed specifically as career preparation for the work of the position being filled, and must have provided the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work. Intensive Short-Term Training-- Completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than 1 year may meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3.(TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combination of successfully completed education and general experience as outlined above may meet the requirements of the position. Only education beyond a high school diploma may be used to qualify applicants for the GS-03 level. NOTE: If using education combined with general experience to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: CommunicationsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Veteran and Customer Focus Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The majority of duties performed will be while sitting at a desk. However, incumbent may be required to push a wheelchair, bend or kneel to obtain information or walking to assist patients. Incumbent may also need to assist patients in ambulation, carrying of packages, etc. Work is performed in a medical center responsible for treating patients with a wide variety of medical problems including psychiatric diagnoses. Work is generally performed in an indoor setting at the Information Desk.
