About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Research safety laws to ensure safety and health requirements are met. Apply Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) regulations to resolve safety issues within the organization. Modify safety processes to control or eliminate hazards. Investigate safety incidents for the organization. Resolve safety and health issues for the organization.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) may be required up to 5% of the time.
• This position requires the ability to acquire Career Program-12 or Professional Certificate of Safety and Occupational Health (PCSOH) certification within one year of appointment.
• This position requires the incumbent to possess a valid state issued driver's license.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

To Qualify for the GS-07 Grade Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) researching safety laws to ensure safety and health requirements are met; 2) Assisting with safety inspections for the organization; and 3) Reviewing past inspection records to prevent unsafe acts or work practices. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: safety or occupational health. OR Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: safety or occupational health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
