You will serve as the Wide Area Network (WAN) Technician, responsible for the technical administration of the NMIC's WAN facility and the 70 plus JWICS networks located at various Naval Commands around the globe. You will apply advanced level networking skills in a client-server environment with emphasis on network monitoring, design, installation, and troubleshooting. This position is located within the IT Operations Department of HOPPER GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS CENTER in Suitland, Maryland.

Duties

You will apply advanced level networking skills in a client-server environment with emphasis on network monitoring, design, installation, and troubleshooting.. You will research new products, performs market research, provides input for acquisition plans and strategies, and compiles acquisition packages. You will perform troubleshooting and fault isolation in large network environments in order to resolve network problems. You will perform network equipment installations including fiber optic cable, routers, hubs, switches, and other related and supported networking equipment.

  • All Defense Intelligence positions under the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) are in the excepted service by specific statute, 10 U.S.C. 1601. This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.
  • This position requires a periodic polygraph examination.
  • This position may require a two-year DCIPS trial period requirement.
  • Must be able to obtain CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
  • Position requires travel.
  • Must be able to obtain passport and international driver's license.
  • This position has been designated as a Cyber IT/CSWF position.
  • Must meet qualification requirements of the specialty area assigned as delineated in Appendix 4 of SECNAV M-5239.2.; see Additional Information Section.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GG/GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Manage a broad range of network operations to include classified and unclassified Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Network (WAN), and Video Teleconferencing (VTC) systems and implement networking plans for automated equipment and systems to maximize connectivity to an IT enterprise structure; Maintain proficiency of various networking technologies such as ATM and various Ethernet variants (Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Switched Ethernet, Metro, etc.), protocol analysis (TCP/IP), routing principles, and traffic analysis to determine plans and policies for future upgrades and installs; Utilize various telecommunications technologies to include circuits (T1 based, Ethernet based, Optical based, etc.), communications equipment such as cryptographic devices, signal amplifiers and repeaters, modems, CSU/DSU, media converters, patch panels, etc., to improve system performance and network responsiveness.
