You will serve as a SUPERVISORY POLICE OFFICER (WATCH COMMANDER) in the ???????Provost Marshal Office/Marine Corps Police Department of MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT.

Duties

You will exercise independent judgement and act promptly and independently in applying regulatory and policy provisions of the Operations. You will ensure that all personnel assigned to their shift are trained and qualified for their duties and responsibilities. You will provide technical advice and guidance to Desk Sergeant/Patrol Sergeant, Lead Police Officers, and Police Officers in the enforcement of laws, rules, and regulations. You will be responsible for planning and assigning work to be accomplished by Police Officers, monitor the workload, analyze the methods used and the results, and implement change when/where necessary. You will direct, screen and evaluate work performed by Police Officers to ensure compliance with policies, programs, priorities and gives approval for minimal deviation from the established procedures. You will assume command of the Operations section to ensure continuity of operations and compliance with policies, procedures and post orders. You will be responsible for ensuring that information pertaining to subordinates is communicated effectively, including new regulations, instructions and policies. You will supervise performance standards for Police Officers and evaluate their work based on established rules.

Requirements

  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenburg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violance are not eligible for the position.
  • This position does not meet the definition or law enforcement officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System-Base Annuity IAW 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.
  • Must meet medical standards for Police Officers in DoD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM-OM 6260. Required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps orders/policies.
  • Must successfully complete a designated USMC Basic Police Officers Course and meet all certification requirements, to include weapons certifications, CPR, AED, DoD and Joint Training Regulations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen; pass a National Agency Check and local background check. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must pass all weapons qualifications prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and must pass all requalifications as required. Must carry a firearm.
  • Must pass a sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation and pass periodic re-tests as required. Must maintain program height and weight appearance standards.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • This is a Department of Navy drug testing designated position. Required to undergo pre-employment urinalysis requirements and sustainment drug testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Overtime way be required.
  • This position requires rotating shift work; subject to 24-hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond. May be subject to being interrupted from meal or other work breaks while on duty.
  • Incumbent must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to use all police equipment, certify in the use of radar detection and alcohol detection equipment, field sobriety tests, expandable or collapsible baton and obtain other certifications required to accomplish law enforcement duties.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing apprehension and detention authority AND performing duties as a watch commander in charge of ensuring continuity of operations and compliance with policies, procedures and post orders (e.g., military and civilian law enforcement officers); preparing detailed reports and citation concerning incidents and actions taken; providing guidance and instruction to police officers.
