About the Position: Serves as Technical Writer-Editor for Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD), Directorate of Strategic Management, Production Engineering Division, Processes Branch.
Duties
Serve as Technical Writer/Editor responsible for planning, organizing, researching, writing and editing and reviewing highly dynamic and complex technical manuals, process guides and equipment manuals.
Serve as a Technical Writer-Editor project coordinator.
Oversee the determination, review, and planning of technical publication requirements and ensures, through research of technical documentation will meet the intended use of equipment and systems.
Support the development, management and maintenance of any database/repository with technical documentation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This is a Temporary position intended to last 12 months. A temporary position may be extended to a maximum of three years and may be terminated at any time during the duration of the appointment, depending upon the needs of management.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). General Experience GS-05: Three years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level, which includes 1) Ability to read and edit papers, 2) Perform research and annotate findings, and 3) Apply vocabulary in a simple and concise manner.. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Experience of writing and editing methods/techniques as it applies to written material 2) Skill in researching and analyzing a range of sources of information and 3) Follows established procedures, techniques, or formats in carrying out the assignment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Government editing and writing procedures/techniques 2) A variety of formats, standards, writing, and editing terminology 3) PC based destop publishing equipment, software, or operations.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Plan, organize, research, write, edit, and review complex technical manuals and guides 2) Identify, distribute, and balance the workload and tasks of the team 3) Reviews contracts to determine compliance and verifies the completeness, adequacy, and accuracy of coverage, which entails planning and research. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Time in Grade Requirement GS-05: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
Time in Grade Requirement GS-07: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
Time in Grade Requirement GS-09: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
Time in Grade Requirement GS-11: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
Education
Education GS-05: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included a total of 15 semester hours in English, Writing, or applicable field, and at least one course above the introductory level in [insert applicable field(s)]. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.
Education GS-07: One full year of graduate level education that included a total of 15 semester hours in English, Writing, or applicable field, and at least one course above the introductory level in [insert applicable field(s)]. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above. Superior Academic Achievement is based on:
(1) Class Standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR
(2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.; OR
(3) Honor Society Membership - Applicants may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https://www.achshonor.org/).
