This position is located in the Nutrition Services Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC). The incumbent in this position serves as the Chief of the Department. This includes supervision of the Clinical Nutrition Manager, Public Health Nutritionists, Director of Food Service, Clinical Dietitian Specialist, Administrative Assistant, and Directorship of the Southwest Dietetic Internship Program. Located in Phoenix, Arizona.
Duties
The incumbent oversees the following: inpatient nutrition services, outpatient nutrition services, nutrition services to outlying field nutrition clinics, the food service section, inpatient diabetes education, the dietetics training program, and the continuous monitoring of all department activities for methods of improvement to meet standards of the Indian Health Service, the Joint Commission (TJC), Conditions of Participation (COP) for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the accreditation body overseeing and certifying graduate Dietitian education.
Incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating nutrition care and education services as well as the nutritional needs of the patients served at PIMC and patients throughout the Phoenix Area sites served via field clinic visits by PIMC Public Health Nutritionists.
Directs and makes decisions related to: a) budget preparation and proposals; b) economic effectiveness so the department operates within budget recommendations; c) specifications for subsistence and supplies; d) food production and service; e) sanitation and safety requirements (HACCP); and departmental training.
Provides diabetes education for hospitalized patients and coordinates referral for outpatient referrals for diabetes education and nutrition care.
Provides nutritional education to individuals and families so that patients can achieve defined outcomes. Evaluates patient motivation and probable compliance. Evaluates achievement in terms of defined outcomes. Refers patients in need of further education for appropriate follow up.
Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements:
In order to qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following requirements. Select the response that most closely and accurately describes your background and which demonstrates how you meet the requirements.
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. OR
Completed a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. OR;
Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).D. I am a current employee and assigned to a position in the GS-0630 occupational series as of September 30, 2017.
Minimum Qualification, For GS-0630-13 Grade Level:
Your resume must demonstrate at least 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Planning, implementing, administration and coordination of a nutrition program composed of several service units or equivalent; providing consultation service on nutritional matters to professional and allied health staff of public health and related agencies; and providing technical assistance to staff within the district that includes developing guidelines, interpreting policies and procedures, review program plans, and reviewing contacts for nutrition services; developing, conducting, and evaluating in-service training programs.
REGISTRATION - Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
I possess and maintain current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (must provide proof of a current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration)
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
