This position serves as the Lead Program Support Assistant (OA) (PSA) for the Business Operations Service in the Registration and Eligibility section at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. The Lead PSA is responsible for the wide range of assignments and provides administrative support maintaining confidentiality and respecting the sensitive nature of information dealt within various aspects of the position.

This position is responsible for a wide range of assignments and provides administrative support to the unit. Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Distribute and balance workload among employees in accordance with established workflow and rotation schedule
Keep in touch with the status and progress of work and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise
Give on-the-job training to new employees
Instruct employees on changes in work procedures
Maintain current informational knowledge base
Resolve simple informal complaints of employees
Provide suggestions/feedback to supervisor concerning reassignments, training needs, recognition of outstanding performance and other personnel needs
Assists the Supervisor as an administrative advisor to clinical and administrative staff
Primary liaison between administrative and clinical staff
Responsible for ensuring accurate collection of statistics from the unit for workload reports
Performs technical activities involved with screening, processing and assisting Veterans, non-Veterans and beneficiaries seeking multiple medical treatment benefits
Knowledge of the various facts of demographics, eligibility, and means test data
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/31/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
GS-07 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-06, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes, but are not limited to:
Interviewing patients applying for medical benefits
Verifies eligibility/entitlement for benefits of all applicants using various methods
Provide exceptional customer service by exceeding the customer's expectations
Extensive knowledge of Medical Center policies
Generate patient data cards
Monitors enrolled patients data base
Protects data from unauthorized release or from loss
Typing Proficiency Requirement: In addition to meeting the required specialized experience, applicants for this position must show possession of the following typing proficiency. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Proficiency skills of self-certified applicants may be verified by administering the appropriate performance test. For this position, applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute. Words per minute are based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary. There will be some periods of walking, bending, lifting and carrying of medical records. This position has the potential to assist individuals who may be angry and/or potentially violent.
