Duties

This Supervisory Security Assistant position is located in Intelligence and Analysis, Vetting Analysis Division, Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to: Supervises and manages a team of highly effective security assistants in a 24x7 watch setting by assigning work, setting team goals, selecting team leads, assigning team members tasks and directing the administrative and technical work of subordinates. Guides the work and development of the team through job coaching/mentoring, enforcing disciplinary actions, managing staff schedules and authorizing leave/absences, and measuring staff performance. Defines training needs, creates resolution and identity verification training, and trains subordinates on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Conducts quality assurance reviews of employee performance. Skill in the use of automated case management system to enter and track customer information/issues while engaged with a customer telephonically. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Tools and processes. Computer savvy and capable of utilizing multiple systems and applications simultaneously. Skill in compiling data from information systems to assess office productivity and performance. Effectively document log entries of the pertinent details of security decisions in appropriate databases. Uses sound judgement and critical thinking skills to accurately collect information via phone calls, review government and commercial databases, and consult with subject matter experts to ensure proper security procedures and protocols are applied to in a timely manner for passenger resolution, identity verification, and document validation. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to support special initiatives, processes and procedures related to multiple mission areas such as call resolution, watch list checks, database checks, and identity verification. Is able to change both individual and work center focus as necessary to adapt to changing security.

Requirements

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-G Pay Band (equivalent to GS-11), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-F Pay Band or GS-9 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such specialized experience is defined as: Applying Security Directives and Regulations to protect the Sensitive Personally Identifiable Information (SPII) ,AND Applying standardized security rules, regulations, procedures, and operations, AND Interpreting and apply policies and procedures to advise subordinates on effective approaches to call handling. Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
