This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The duties of the Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist - CT, include but are not limited to: Gathers relevant information from the medical record, significant others and health care providers to ensure the correct procedure is ordered and protocoled appropriately while also assessing factors that may contraindicate the procedure. Maintains competence in Venipuncture and refers to the Radiology Service procedure manual for guidelines on Administration of Contrast Media, Guidelines for Power Injection of Contrast Media and use of Contrast Media, all while ensuring proper physical assessment of patient and while using aseptic techniques. Applies universal, standard and transmission-based precautions as appropriate. Applies the appropriate pre-procedural, procedural and postprocedural care during examinations. Performs daily quality management (QM) inspections of radiographic units to ensure proper mechanical functionality and ensures the daily functionality of CR readers. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification on a bi-annual basis and is in compliance at all times Operates a wide variety of imaging equipment to obtain examinations of acceptable quality, utilizing the least amount of radiation to obtain quality imaging for diagnosis and localization purposes. Performs all aspects of CT imaging to include: Head, Neck, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis Extremities, 3D Reconstructions of CT, Multi-Planar Reformats CT and Angiographic studies when requested and/or when part of a standard procedure. Performs special procedures such as CT Angiography of the Circle of Willis, Carotids, Abdominal Aortas, and Run-Off's, utilizing specialized series to visualize the anatomy and pathology necessary for diagnosis. Performs Interventional CT biopsy exams utilizing surgical sterile techniques. Prepares contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist that are used in CT, to include CT Angiography and other exams. Understands policies and procedures for practicing radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self. Maintains knowledge in CT dose optimization and the factors that directly affect radiation dose from the CT scanner to the patient. Reviews the CT orders screening information for accuracy. Performs and completes imaging studies within the established guidelines for stat, preop, urgent, and routine exams. Performs minor equipment adjustments, repairs and exercises care in the handling and safeguarding of all equipment. Maintains competency and thorough knowledge of the processes for Critical, Semi- Critical, and Non-Critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) that document the process and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME and follow established procedures for all RME. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Applicants must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education: Applicants must have completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-09 : At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Demonstrate Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): i. *Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures. ii. Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers. iii.*Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure. iv. Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography. v. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions. vi. Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients. This position requires the Advanced ARRT certification computed tomography (CT) in addition to the general radiologic technology certification (R). Preferred Experience: Hospital based experience preferred. References: VA Handbook 5005/119, Part II Appendix G25, Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist Qualification Standard. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-09. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the work includes: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; pushing up to 4 hours; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required); prolonged walking, prolonged standing; repeated bending; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); speed in working; and emotional stability. Must have the ability to stand and work while wearing a lead apron for possibly long periods of time.
