This position is part of the Interior Business Center (IBC), Human Resources Directorate (HRD), IBC HRD Human Resources Operations Division. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to HR Specialist(s) and advice and assistance to managers, supervisors, and employees regarding recruitment and placement. This position is eligible for a remote work Arrangement. More information regarding IBC's remote work terms is available here.

Duties

As a Student Trainee (Human Resources) you will serve in a trainee capacity, performing routine and recurring developmental assignments to acquire knowledge and an understanding of functions, principles, practices, and methods used in the area of Human Resources. Provides support to HR Specialist and assistance to supervisors and employees on a wide variety of human resources services including, staffing and recruitment and personnel action processing. Processes the full range of personnel actions in an automated personnel/payroll system. Conducts in-processing of new employees via an automated on-boarding system to include issuing appointment/information documents and obtaining appointment documents. Ensures appointment documents are completed correctly and processes the documents in the automated personnel/payroll system.

Eligibility Requirements: In order to be eligible for the Pathways Career Internship Program, the following qualifications must be met: Be a U.S. citizen; Be at least 16 years of age; Be a student enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree or certificate seeking student taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school. The Certificate Program requirement includes post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum. Possess and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA or equivalent on a 4.0 scale. Only education from institutions which are accredited or preaccredited/candidate for accreditation may be used to meet education requirements. Student must meet eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program. *If you are currently enrolled, but in your last semester/quarter of completing your degree/certificate requirements, you must show proof of continued education such as an acceptance letter or you will be disqualified. This position requires that you obtain and maintain the Delegated Examining Certification at the GS-7/8 level. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. At the GS-04 level, you must meet the following qualification: A. Completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study OR an associate degree (1 full academic year is equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours).; OR B. One year of general experience - progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.; OR C. A Combination of education and experience as list above. At the GS-05 level, you must meet the following qualification: A.Completed a bachelor's degree or four full academic years of education above the high school level from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university (1 full academic year is equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours).; OR B. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to experience in scanning documents into an automated record keeping system such as eOPF; inputting and/or extracting data in an automated personnel\payroll system; processing routine personnel actions; and answering routine HR related inquiries.; OR C. A Combination of education and experience as list above.
