About the Position: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans preference so long as such applicants are available for appointment. If there are no Veterans preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.

Duties

Responsible for the safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction. Directs the work of an organizational unit engaged in providing protective security and physical security services to a military installation. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets immediate priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work assignments. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Develop performance plans, evaluate work performance of subordinates, and provide recommended ratings of record. Responsible for inspection of private or commercial vehicles entering or leaving the installation. Must perform daily post checks of all post/personnel included in guard force areas of responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center terminals.
  • Individual Reliability Program applies. Employee is expected to maintain a high standard of conduct and be assessed for social adjustment, emotional stability, flexibility in adjusting to changes, ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques and must know first aid.
  • May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outline is Army Regulation 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard uniform and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
