The primary purpose of this position is to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair single and multiple sewage pumping stations, water distribution systems, sewer distribution systems with associated auxiliary equipment, and pollution control equipment.

Duties

Operates and adjusts complete water distribution system and complete sanitary sewer systems, including multiple lift and pumping stations requiring continuous attention to monitor efficiency and ensure continuous service is provided. Performs all tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of various types of equipment located in the collection systems. Performs preventive maintenance services Troubleshoots sewer lift station pumping and controls systems and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment. Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, specifications, and work orders.

  • This posn is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Employee must maintain current certifications.
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments.
  • Must have at a minimum a valid MA 1D Water License and obtain the MA 2D Water Operator License within six months of the date of appointment.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Work will include seasonal fuels work, monitoring facility fuel tanks, and seasonally working with LRS for fuel delivery.
  • Employee will be required to utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Backflow Prevention Device Testers/Cross connection survey certificate within 1 year of appointment.
  • Employee will be required to support Base Readiness and Emergency Operations Exercises and Real World Threats and Events.
  • Employee will be required to support special events (i.e Annual Air Show, Base exercises), not necessarily performing in their primary skill code.
  • Employee will be required to augment the Civil Engineering Snow Removal Team not necessarily performing in their primary skill code.
  • Occasionally is exposed to communicable disease or infectious matter when changing filters.
  • The work will require the employee to carry a cell phone.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance And Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
