About the Position: This announcement is for the position of Lock and Dam Equipment Repairer Supervisor, WA-5318-07, at Lock and Dam 13 located in Fulton, IL.

Duties

Serve as the working supervisor of employees involved in lock and dam facility operation and routine upkeep and maintenance work. Plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools on a day to day, project by project basis. Provide technical direction and assists in accomplishing difficult, new, or changed work processes or methods. Assign work to individual employees involved in the performance of facility maintenance activities. Assign, track and report the progress of work assignments. Inspect completed work for quality and work order/assignment requirements. Advise, performance rate, and counsel employees. Serve as primary credit card holder and maintain associated records on usage and purchases. Implement management programs such as incentive awards, cost reduction, affirmative action, time and leave, and overtime. Assure that equipment, tools, supplies, and material are maintained and used properly. Recommend changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences, as necessary. Analyze and remedy problems such as equipment failure, material delays, or unplanned absences.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • A medical examination is required. If selected, satisfactory completion of a medical examination is required before assignment to the position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • Employee may be required to acquire and maintain appropriate Corps of Engineers equipment operating licenses based on site specific requirements.
  • A supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • May be required to work uncommon hours such as nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing.
  • Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.

To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform common duties as a shift head lock and dam operator such as being responsible for site operations during second, third, and swing shift or on leave days; performing and directing the locking of boats and dam gate operations; and performing, assisting, and/or directing other lock personnel in installation, repair and maintenance tasks; and being responsible for directing and/or accomplishing all routine or special lock operating gate operations, and maintenance tasks as assigned and for exercising primary authority over use of locks during work shift when working independently of immediate supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hands and feet, and also of legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined areas such as manholes, enclosed switchgear structures, or on overhead structures. Climbs ladder and poles. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, subject to changing climatic conditions, loud noises, prolonged standing, falling, water hazards, drowning, cuts and bruises. Works in cramped places and is exposed to dirt, grease, fumes, and dust; works around heavy construction machinery with and around power shop equipment. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads or in tunnels below water level.
