The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor work for the U-2 aircrew survival and flight equipment.

Duties

- Performs work planning responsibilities. Plans use of workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a daily or by project basis. Adheres to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher level supervisors. Follows customary work cycles and sequences in planning work assignments. - Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns work to individuals and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes. Observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, reassign personnel within group supervised; and coordinates work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress to meet schedules. - Performs work. Performs inspections, tests, troubleshoots, maintains, disassembles, repairs, installs, modifies, stores, issues, fits, and adjusts aircrew flight equipment such as full pressure suits, helmets, survival kits, single place life rafts, emergency signaling and communication devices such as survival radios and beacons, and other types of aircrew survival systems. Uses various types of test equipment such as oxygen, leakage, radio, and other types of testers to conduct reliability testing on aircrew survival/flight equipment. - Performs administration responsibilities. Participates with employees in the development of performance plans and recommends them to supervisors. Advises employees of performance expectations and explains new work techniques, as required. - Provides a work environment that is free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Supports the agency's EEO program through allocation of personnel to participate in community outreach and recruitment programs, ensures full cooperation of employees with EEO office officials. Ensures education in, compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas. Ensures employees with access to classified information comply with security directives. Reports all known security violations to the proper authority immediately when discovered.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours and tours of duties such as rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, call back, uncommon tours of duty, holidays, etc.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • The duties of this position require the employee to operate a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required.
  • Due to the limited amount of experienced personnel in this field, it is highly desirable that the nominee have a minimum of four years of experience and an in depth knowledge on all current U2 physiological equipment and launch/recovery operations.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4800 - General Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the Ability to Do the Work of an Aircraft Survival and Flight Equipment Supervisor without More than Normal Supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised and personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and /or test equipment common to trades supervised. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
