About the Position: You will serve as a Target Systems Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) for the Directorate of Training, Mobility & Security Training Division Range Maintenance Branch, Fort Bliss Texas.

Duties

Coordinate and control installation training areas and facilities. Provide guidance on regulations and procedures for range and land use, live fire safety, area cleanup, environmental concerns and restrictions. Prepare and manage the Range Maintenance Reports for monthly meetings with the Director, of Plans, Training, Mobility and Security (DPTMS). Ability to follow signal paths through simple printed circuit and wired circuitry, recognizing actual circuit configurations which are shown in schematics and diagrams. Ensure hardware and software are compatible and properly configured to preclude malfunctions and conflict in programs and operating systems used for targets. Inspect and troubleshoot electrical pop-up target mechanisms, ensuring controls and target mechanisms are operational prior to and after use. Locate and repair electrical target malfunctions and test completed work, utilizing electrical and mechanical principles. Utilize hand tools such as soldering and crimping devices, and shop machinery for reworking, balancing and reassembling items. Inspect and service ranges, training areas, facilities and firing positions prior to and after completion of live fire exercises for occupation, usage and clearance. Conduct inspections of areas and facilities being used by units to ensure training is performed in accordance with applicable regulations, instructions and other guidelines. Utilize proper radio procedures to establish and maintain contact with units and ranges ensuring units are in assigned areas and to respond to request for assistance.

Requirements

  • Appointment maybe subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • A current State drivers license is required. Must be able to operate both a four-wheel drive vehicle with standard transmission and an off-road all-terrain vehicle. Work requires driving on hazardous roads and terrain.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position maybe required to work irregular hours to include rotation between major training areas, shift work, rotating shifts and weekend/holiday work and overtime.
  • Position requires Range Safety Training and Certification, which may be obtain within one year of employment. Inability to obtain and maintain this certification may result in termination.
  • This position is a Designated Mission Essential Position: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations.
